Head Coach: Yash Malekpour
Volleyball has been a cornerstone of Yash Malekpour’s life for 30 years, with 15 of those spent competing at a high level. Growing up in a family where volleyball spans three generations, Yash’s love for the sport runs deep. His journey through volleyball has not only honed his skills but also instilled a profound appreciation for teamwork, discipline, and the joy of the game.
Now, Yash is eager to share his passion and knowledge with the next generation of volleyball players. He is committed to fostering a love for the sport in young athletes, teaching them the skills and values that volleyball has imparted to him. With his rich experience and genuine enthusiasm, Yash is dedicated to guiding and inspiring new talent, helping them achieve their fullest potential both on and off the court.
Assistant Coaches: Emilia Cirillo
Volleyball has been a huge part of my life since I started playing at 12 years old. Over the years, I’ve competed at both the school and club levels, earning provincial and national-level wins. The sport has given me so many of my favourite memories, friendships, and experiences, and being able to continue doing what I love through coaching has been incredibly special to me.
I’ve had the opportunity to assistant coach at both the club and high school levels with Action Volleyball Club, Focus Volleyball Club, and Port Moody Secondary. Having experienced the sport from both a player’s and coach’s perspective, I understand the importance of creating a gym environment where athletes feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn.
As a coach, I love helping athletes develop not only their volleyball skills, but also their confidence and love for the game. I want my players to feel comfortable being themselves, making mistakes, trying new things, and celebrating their progress along the way. Seeing athletes grow, build friendships, and become more confident both on and off the court is what makes coaching so rewarding for me. My goal is for every athlete to leave the season with new skills, great memories, and an even bigger passion for volleyball!

Head Coach: Andrew Gaudet
Andrew brings a well-rounded and athlete-centered approach to volleyball coaching, grounded in both extensive playing experience and a strong foundation in sports science. I have coached two years of school volleyball and played the sport for approximately 25 years, including over a decade at a competitive level. This long-term involvement in volleyball has given me a deep understanding of the technical, tactical, and physical demands of the game. In addition to my volleyball background, I have over 18 years of experience in weight training and sport-specific athletic development. I am BCRPA certified and have a background in human kinesiology, allowing me to integrate evidence-based strength, conditioning, and movement principles into my coaching. This combination enables me to support athletes not only in skill development on the court, but also in building strength, resilience, and confidence off the court. My coaching philosophy focuses on developing well-rounded athletes ; physically, mentally, and emotionally. I emphasize accountability, intentional effort, and long-term growth, helping players understand that success is built through consistent, focused investment in themselves. A guiding principle I share with athletes is: “Invest in what you’re invested in.” By eliminating distractions and redirecting energy toward purposeful training and personal development, athletes can unlock levels of performance and confidence beyond what they initially believe is possible.

16U Carey
-
Head Coach: Carey Delaney:
Carey has coached at Cougars volleyball for seven years, winning Cougars first Bronze medal at provincials. Carey also coaches senior volleyball at Samuel Robertson Technical School. He is Development and Advanced and Development trained and a certified Volleyball Referee.
I believe in a positive environment, teamwork, hard work, developing skills to be better individuals on the court and in life.
Assistant Coaches: Brooklyn Delaney
Brendan Kukhta:
Moved to British Columbia in 2023, originally from Ontario. He is an avid hiker, gym goer, SOSSA Regionals champion in Discus, and of course, a Toronto Maple Leafs fan haha. He played baseball and volleyball throughout the entirety of his life. He has experience playing high school, club and recreational volleyball since the age of 13. He was fortunate to coach U13 baseball in his home town and looks forward to teaching and inspiring the youth of today.
I believe everyone has a hidden talent and it is the coaches responsibility to find that talent within the child. Persistence, hard work and self discipline always beats natural talent and the ability to keep trying after getting knocked down several times says a lot about an athlete. Ego is the enemy.

Head coach: Ana Lindberg
My coaching career began 3 years ago when I was recruited to coach at Above the Net, a non-profit association in Langley and was hooked ever since. I continued as a head coach of the grade 8 girls (2024) volleyball team at Brookswood, grade 9 girls (2025) where we won the championship title in Langley, and I will be coaching the Jr girls (2026) this fall. This will be my second year of head coaching a club team, the first being u15 girls in 2026. I love coaching and being apart of a team and I am very excited to be joining the cougars family this season. I want to create a positive, fun, competitive environment where the athletes not only grow and are challenged in their volleyball skills and their love of the game, but also where they can grow as people and work on character development.
As I challenge my athletes to learn and grow I do the same; I have been to conferences in the US and Canada to further my learning as a coach as well as volunteering at various camps to learn from coaches there.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, 4 kids and my dog, doing anything in nature like hiking or camping.
Assistant Coaches: Dustin Laird
Coach Dustin stepped into coaching volleyball in recent years and has since gained experience at both the club and high school levels. He’s committed not only to developing strong skills, communication, and teamwork, but also to shaping character, leadership, and healthy relationships - believing that who athletes become matters more than how they play.
Dustin is grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside athletes as they discover their strengths, learn to support one another, and grow both on and off the court.
Outside the gym, Dustin enjoys life with his wife, two daughters, two dogs, and two rabbits. He runs low-cost adult volleyball and soccer leagues to facilitate new friendships in the community, loves hockey, and is most content sitting on his boat with fly-fishing rod in hand from dawn to dusk.
Maddie Freeman
I started my volleyball journey at Volleybox Sports Centre, where I trained for three years and found my love for the sport. I also completed a coaching mentorship program and played on a minor league team there. I played on the senior team at my high school Brookswood Secondary for 3 years and with FVVC Volleyball Club for two years. I also helped coach with Ace Volleyball Club and my high schools volleyball teams.
I want to help athletes learn, grow, and build confidence while sharing my love and knowledge of volleyball. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive team environment where everyone feels included and valued.
